Electric bikes – for a pleasant and smooth riding experience

For many, an electric bike serves as a bridge between a regular bike and a motorized vehicle. It retains the most important advantages—mobility, physical activity, easier maintenance, and lower costs—while providing more comfort and freedom of movement on daily trips. This is precisely why electric bikes are particularly valued for commuting to work, school, or the store, as well as for planning longer routes or traveling on different types of road surfaces (especially relevant in suburban areas).

One of the advantages of this mode of micro-transport is its versatility. When choosing, you can consider not only price or design, but also specific technical parameters: motor power, torque, battery capacity, wheel size, weight, brake type, frame construction, and intended use. For this reason, they are suitable for a wide range of users—from city dwellers seeking more convenient transportation to enthusiasts of active leisure, longer trips, or more challenging routes.

How does an electric bike work, and how does it differ from a regular one?

An electric bike works similarly to a regular one, but differs in that it has an additional motor, battery, controller, and often a control screen, making riding easier and more efficient.

The most important thing to understand is that the motor does not change the principle of riding itself, but only makes it easier—the bike is still propelled by pedaling, while the electric motor provides additional assistance based on the selected assistance level. This makes it easier to get moving, maintain a higher speed, tackle hills, and cover longer distances with less physical effort.

The battery supplies power to the motor, the controller regulates the operation of the entire system and responds to your actions, and the motor provides assistance while riding. On many models, the rider can choose from several different riding modes.

It’s important to note that even if the battery runs out, you can still continue riding the e-bike. This is one of the key features that sets this option apart from other electric vehicles.

5 reasons why an electric bike is worth your attention

It’s not just a trendy novelty—it’s a smart alternative that more and more consumers around the world are choosing. For those wondering if such a purchase is truly worth the investment, here are the main benefits of this choice.

1.    Greater comfort for daily commutes

One of the most important advantages of an e-bike is the integrated electric motor, which significantly makes daily travel easier. This means you can effortlessly cover longer distances and hills, and ride with confidence in adverse weather conditions, such as strong headwinds. The ride becomes more enjoyable, less tiring, and accessible to a wider range of people, regardless of their physical fitness.

2.    An effective alternative to a car in the city

This solution is increasingly seen as a smart and reliable alternative to a car in an urban setting. It helps avoid traffic jams, reduces the need to search for parking spots and rely on public transportation, and spares you from many other inconveniences typical of car travel. Additionally, it can significantly reduce transportation costs.

3.    Active Movement While Maintaining Convenience

It is often assumed that an electric bicycle means less physical activity, but practice shows the opposite. Even with the electric motor running and across different modes, active pedaling remains. Since routes are easier to navigate, this mode of transport is more often chosen over a car or bus—physical activity becomes a natural part of daily life without causing significant discomfort.

4.    Thoughtful solutions for ergonomics and safety

This is thoughtful mobility that combines ergonomics with advanced technology. The reinforced construction, suspension, drivetrain, and intuitive controls allow you to enjoy a smooth ride in a variety of conditions. Smart features add value by allowing you to tailor the vehicle more precisely to your individual needs.

5.    A Reliable and Long-Lasting Choice

Our wide selection makes it easy to find a model that meets your individual expectations and daily riding habits. Modern models are characterized by high quality, reliable components, and durable construction. Even the most popular electric bike may not necessarily meet your expectations. Only one that is chosen responsibly and properly maintained will serve you for many years and become an integral part of your travels or active leisure time.

Types of electric bikes and their features — what’s worth knowing?

Electric bikes are categorized by purpose, riding habits, and design. For your convenience, here’s a brief overview:

•    City (ATB). Practical, functional, maneuverable, and ergonomically designed—suitable for both leisure and daily commuting or short trips.

•    Folding. Compact, space-saving models with a reliable folding mechanism—they fit in a car trunk, on a bus, or are suitable for storage in smaller homes.

•    Gravel. Versatile, designed for roads or light off-road terrain, longer trips—for an active lifestyle.

•    Powerful (FAT bike). Stand out for their power, sturdy frame, and thick tires—suitable for any journey, maintaining stability in snow, on mountain trails, or forest paths.

•    Cargo and specialized (Cargo). For transporting small cargo, groceries, or other necessary items, as well as for long trips and daily business needs.

•    Mountain (MTB). Designed for extreme challenges and adventures: off-road, forest trails, mountain trails, and steep hills. Features a powerful motor and tires that ensure good traction.

•    Lightweight and compact. Characterized by a lightweight frame and a small footprint—the ideal choice for getting around town: to work, meetings, or the store.

•    Low-frame. Thanks to their comfortable seating position and stable construction, they are suitable for older people or those who value maximum comfort, ergonomics, and maneuverability.

•    Touring. Ideal for smooth travel on longer routes, and the practical accessories (luggage rack, basket, mudguards) provide added functionality.

•    Children’s / Teen. Designed for younger riders, these models feature a smaller size, adjustable features as the rider grows, and a safe design. An electric bike for children ensures easier handling and the ability to cover longer distances with the whole family.

How to choose the right electric bike model for you?

If you’re wondering which electric bike is best and which model to buy, it’s worth starting with a rational assessment of your individual preferences and technical specifications. To make your choice a little easier, here are the most important aspects we recommend considering.

Electric Bike Selection Guide

1.    Intended use. Determine the routes and road surfaces you’ll ride on most often: in the city, in the countryside, on forest trails, off-road, or on paved roads. This will determine which type of e-bike (MTB, Cargo, Gravel, ATB, etc.) is best for you.

2.    Motor power (W). This affects riding dynamics, acceleration, and comfort under heavier loads. At Riedis.lt, you can choose from 250–1000 W models and more powerful options. An electric bike with 1000 W or less is perfect for city riding, simple routes, leisure, or younger riders. 1500 W power – for sports and extreme experiences. 750–1000 W power is often considered the optimal choice for those seeking a balance between speed, comfort, and the ability to more easily handle rough road surfaces and hills.

3. Torque (Nm). Indicates how much traction is provided when starting from a standstill and climbing hills. The more powerful the motor, the higher the torque. Lower torque is often sufficient for city riding and smoother road surfaces, while higher torque is better suited for MTBs, FAT bikes, cargo bikes, or more intensive use.

4.    Motor mounting location. A mid-drive motor provides better balance and maneuverability, allows you to utilize the entire drivetrain, and is more resistant to external impacts, such as bumps. Wheel-mounted – easier to replace and install, operates more quietly, and costs less (a common choice for lightweight models).

5.    Battery capacity (Ah) and range (km). Battery capacity and voltage significantly affect the distance covered on a single charge. There is a wide selection available on the market—ranging from 6 Ah to 30 Ah and higher capacities. The maximum range varies between 50–180 km. However, the distance covered is also influenced by riding habits, load, tire pressure, speed, and other factors.

6.    Top speed (km/h). You can choose a bike with a top speed of 25 km/h, 40 km/h, 45 km/h, or even 55 km/h. For city use, speeds up to 25 km/h are usually sufficient, while faster models require a more careful assessment of intended use, riding skills, and applicable legal requirements.

7.    Wheel size. This directly affects stability, traction, maneuverability, and the overall riding experience. Smaller wheels (14", 16", 20") are more common on folding and compact models, while larger ones (25" and up) are found on gravel, MTB, and fat bikes.

8.    Frame weight. Electric bikes are generally heavier because they include a motor, battery, and control electronics; some models can weigh 50 kg or more. For those planning to take the bike on trips or store it at home, lighter frames are recommended.

9.    Maximum load capacity. The bike must be suitable for the rider’s weight to ensure stable and safe daily riding. For those planning to purchase a cargo bike, it’s worth choosing a more durable model capable of handling heavier loads.

10. Frame material. The main choices are aluminum or carbon fiber frames. Aluminum is practical and resistant to damage and impacts. Carbon is lighter, offers greater comfort, and absorbs vibrations more effectively; it is more commonly found in higher-end models.

11.    Charging time. Battery charging time is typically around 6–8 hours, though in some cases it may be shorter. It is recommended to consider how often and with what intensity the product will be used. For greater convenience, choose a model with a removable battery.

12.    Operating principle. The PAS (CAD) sensor detects pedal rotation and activates motor assistance accordingly, depending on the selected assistance level. Suitable for more leisurely rides where precise power control isn’t necessary and simpler handling is preferred. Meanwhile, the torque sensor detects not only pedal movement but also pedaling force, so assistance is provided more precisely, naturally, and smoothly.

13. Features and comfort solutions. Invest in a high-quality product that features a reliable braking system, a durable battery, intuitive controls, and ergonomic design. Pay attention to suspension, lighting, fenders, storage space, or other features that are important to you.

14.    Legal requirements. For most electric bike models, registration and a driver’s license are not required—wearing a helmet and having mandatory liability insurance is sufficient.

Electric bikes — price: what determines it?

Prices in the Riedis.lt range vary from 600 to 2,000 euros, though some models may cost even more. The price is influenced by motor power, battery capacity, range, frame type, materials used, configuration, additional features, manufacturer, and other technical aspects.

However, when making your choice, you shouldn’t settle for the cheapest option. The price and quality of an electric bike should match not only your budget but also your individual needs, expectations for comfort, safety, and durability.

In our online store, you’ll find a selection tailored to different budgets. If you have a specific amount in mind, use the product sorting feature for a more convenient search—from lowest to highest price or vice versa.
